You are warmly invited to join a new block of Relearning Rest classes, which are designed to help you rediscover your own ability to deeply relax and restore through the healing practice of yoga. Here at Space to Breathe it is our heartfelt aim to help you meet your fundamental human need for rest and relaxation. Relaxation involves a process of unwinding, of opening and letting go across different layers of who we are; physically, mentally, energetically and emotionally.
COURSE ONE (JAN/FEB)
Thursdays 10.30am - 11.30am: - 16th Jan, 23rd Jan, 30th Jan, 6th Feb, 13th Feb, 20th Feb
Each week we will explore this process by learning how to decrease the skills on the left (red arrows) by developing and growing the skills on the right (green arrows):
Each class runs for an hour for a maximum of six students. Our studio has all the equipment you will need to participate, including yoga mats, but if you would like to bring your own, or anything which makes you feel more relaxed, please feel free to do so.
Each weekly session of the course follows a similar structure, we begin with a trauma-informed practice to calm the nervous system, and will always finish with an extended guided Yoga Nidra relaxation in a Restorative Yoga position called Savasana (please see illustrations for examples). Your teacher will demonstrate and assist with the setup process to help you find a position in which you feel fully supported, deeply comfortable and at ease. Yoga Nidra takes the brain into a state in between waking and sleeping, and has profoundly positive effects on the brain’s ability to calm itself and on quality of sleep.
Trauma-Informed Practice Note: If you find it distressing to focus on your breath or body while remaining still and quiet with your eyes covered, I would recommend one-to-one session rather than Relearning Rest classes. Please get in touch, fran@spacetobreatheuk.com, to explore options together if you feel this would be beneficial.
