Our work with the NHS in Sheffield & across England

Current situations and challenges are clearly increasing pressures on an already stretched workforce and as such, we as Space to Breathe are keen to reach out and help. Over we’ve developed a range of immediately deployable solutions that have already supported NHS staff, Patients and Carers through local and national NHS commissions and that have been acknowledged nationally as exemplars (NHS Mental Health Community Forensic Teams Pilot.)

  • in caring for individuals within Primary Care and Social Care sectors

  • provide inventions around ‘preventative’ Mental health work, around Autism and Mental health and in Forensic Mental Health.

  • support staff wellbeing through webinars, mindfulness sessions, 1:1 work and through online resources.

Space to Breathe is a Community Interest Company (not for profit) with extensive experience and health and wellbeing resources to support individuals and teams to both be cared for and provided with tools and skills to take better care of themselves.

We are keen to speak with NHS Leaders who are currently looking at innovative and effective ways to support their colleagues and systems through provision of quickly deployable, effective, and high value health and wellbeing support.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

Space to Breathe are available to offer 1:1 and group work with individuals within the mental health system (either waiting for treatment or to support their ongoing treatment.) We can create packages of support that involve our Wellbeing Zones sessions (1:1 or group), places on courses or teaching of grounding tools and self-care resources.

We are also able to help staff through 1:1 support, through online groups and training through our Wellbeing Zones for Organisations or through supplying our Wellbeing Suite library of resources to a department/team. The Wellbeing Suite can be provided to staff in a health setting where we offer the service for free for one month as trial. If the free trial is successful, we can arrange a large organisation rate, group discounts or individual subscriptions depending on need.

This digital wellbeing subscription gives you simple tools and techniques that support you to do this, straight to your inbox every week. We support a number of Yorkshire based organisations this way. One shared:

"Well? is invaluable. It provides our clients with the opportunity to build emotional and psychological resilience, it also provides practical strategies to help pad out their kitbag in readiness for the hard work of counselling. It's reassuring to be able to offer something so useful whilst people are waiting for counselling to start. "

MINDFULNESS, SELF CARE AND HEALTH

In this helpful and informative video, Andy explains Space to Breathe’s self-care ethos and how our work interacts with mental health services.

Supporting Frontline NHS Workers in their Wellbeing

Since Space to Breathe was founded we have developed programmes and support for people in stressful and difficult jobs. We are delighted that this has included frontline NHS Workers.

“Community CAMHS commissioned Space to Breathe in Feb 2019 to work with clinicians, helping inform a clearer understanding of the Service and Trust cultures alongside current stresses and pressures from a staff/team preceptive. Space to Breathe approached this work using a jigsaw art installation to record views using an inanimate object to hold all the information in one place providing a clear visual output for staff responses. This has been the most creative way, to date, community CAMHS has been able to obtain this information and staff feedback was extremely positive in relation to this approach and the Space to Breathes engagement with the service."

In 2020 we ran online wellbeing sessions for NHS staff, key workers and charity workers giving out so much during the pandemic. We helped these individuals with their wellbeing so they in turn would have the resilience to keep supporting others and keep Sheffield going through the crisis. We ran weekly groups attended regularly by 58 people who represent Sheffield NHS, Sheffield Council, Sheffield Health and Social Care, Sheffield Voluntary Action, SACHMA, Roshni, Sheffield Mind and Sheffield Housing amongst others

Our Wellbeing Days have also had a significant impact; 95% of participants say they would recommend the training to colleagues and 97.1% give the day either 4 or 5 out of 5.

"After the day, I am glad it wasn’t just a ‘day off’ – much more useful. I will be more productive in future; more than 1 days’ worth!"
