Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

Using the ALGEE method, you’ll be taught how to listen, reassure and respond. It won’t equip you to be a therapist but will enable you to have the skills to cope in a crisis and often to prevent a crisis happening.

The course enables you to see warning signs, understand conditions and respond helpfully and appropriately. It will cover:

• Understanding Mental Health.

• Tools and approaches to care for someone in crisis or before a crisis happens.

• Understanding different elements of Mental Health challenges including Suicide, Depression.

• How to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms.

• How to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma around mental health.

• Understanding the impacts of alcohol and substance misuse on your mental health.

• Understanding some Mental Health conditions including Anxiety Disorders and Psychosis.

Learning takes place across four manageable sessions and groups are limited in size to improve the quality of the course.

The course will be delivered by MHFA England trainer Sharon Pegg and takes place on 9-10 September at the Hotel Leopold Sheffield. Each participant will receive resources and a certificate as a Mental Health First Aider for completing the course.

Course costs £250

Cost includes:

• two days training

• course manual and resources

• a certificate to say that you are a Mental Health First Aider

• tea and coffee are provided each day (lunch not provided but lunch break given.)

This course will take place at Hotel Leopold, 2 Leopold St, Sheffield S1 2GZ. It runs 9am to 5pm for each of the two days. More details to follow on booking.
