About the Class& your teacher

Hi, I’m Deborah.  I’ve been practicing yoga for several years, alongside exploring holistic practices that have supported me through periods of stress, anxiety, grief and trauma.

Alongside completion of my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, I’m currently undertaking a year-long training in Yin and Restorative Yoga.  For me, yoga is about so much more than posture.

My Restorative Yoga classes at Space to Breathe offer a gentle, nurturing space to slow down, breathe, rest and reconnect - creating a little pause from a world that constantly asks us to do more.

Rest is a natural ability we have from birth, but life's challenges can make it hard to access this inner sense of peace. For those of us who have faced trauma, the nervous system may remain in a state of heightened alertness, complicating the process of relaxation further.

In our group sessions, you can look forward to being part of a welcoming and understanding group of a maximum of eight students, in a safe, nurturing environment with expert instruction to help you access the therapeutic benefits of deep rest.

Every session will follow a similar structure:

We usually begin with a trauma-informed practice to calm the nervous system, either standing or sitting.

We then move to a settling practice, which may include stillness, or we may work with some gentle, accessible movement, either sitting on a chair or lying down.

Any guidance around breath will be agreed upon together so that you are always comfortable with what we practice, and is entirely optional.

We finish with a guided Yoga Nidra* relaxation in a Restorative Yoga position

*Yoga Nidra is the name of a guided relaxation practice which takes the brain into a state in between waking and sleeping, and has profoundly positive effects on the brain’s ability to calm itself and on quality of sleep.
