New term for schools and the importance of wellbeing

It’s the start of a new term in our schools and across the country, teaching staff are returning to classrooms and coming to terms with the new realities of school-life after all we’ve been through and continue to go through with COVID.

Our Education Lead, Ben Harper shares his thoughts ….

If Covid has taught us anything, it’s that wellbeing is important. Living through lockdowns, restrictions and uncertainty has tested everyone to some degree or another.

School staff have had particular challenges to contend with; switching between face to face and online learning (often at short notice), working in far greater isolation from colleagues they would normally rely on, and doing more than ever to support those children and young people who are in any way vulnerable.

My ‘eyes on the ground’ would lead me to commend all those working in and around schools for their adaptability, creativity and resilience over the last eighteen months, with special commendation to school leaders, many of whom worked through their school holidays to implement new guidance from the government at short notice.

Great to be back

It’s great to be back this term delivering more wellbeing work for school staff than ever. As schools move away from ‘just reacting to what’s in front of them’, many have chosen to make wellbeing a priority. They are seeing that wellbeing needs investment and is key to the success of their school overall.

The term kicked off last week with a Soulful Wellbeing day for a staff team of 45 from a Sheffield school with over 85% staff rating the day as a 4 or 5 out of 5 and the same percentage said they would recommend the day to colleagues in other schools. The rest of the half term is busy with workshops for leaders and staff training in things such as workload management and self care.

Our aim for our wellbeing work with schools has always been to see school communities thrive, not just survive. All of our training and support is aimed at helping schools to do this, whether it be workshops for school leaders on creating a culture of wellbeing, training staff in what wellbeing looks like or offering one to one professional supervision to those with particularly stressful roles. We’d love to work with even more schools and support even more school staff.

We have a suite of wellbeing services that we can offer local schools. Check out our Schools pages below and why not get in touch?
