A week in the life of Space to Breathe ...

One of the most regular questions I get asked is “what does your normal working week look like?” Running your own company and the unique nature of Space to Breathe’s work makes many people wonder - what exactly does this look like. So I thought I’d give you a little insight into last week and all it held. It was a busy one, but gave a really good picture of how we work.

Monday 24th June

I am at the Crucible Theatre Sheffield early to prepare for our “Creating a Culture of Wellbeing Seminar” with delegates from two Sheffield-based and two national organisations. This small group seminar shares all the core wisdom we’ve picked up over the years around how we make a culture in workplaces which enables people to flourish. The morning seminar is to be followed by by 1-2-1 consultations but we are thrilled to receive 5/5 reviews and that everyone present would recommend the event to colleagues.

You can find out more about this seminar here.

The next Creating a Culture of Wellbeing Seminar takes place on Monday 23 September 2019 at the Adelphi Room at the Crucible Sheffield. Others are planned for 2019 with at least one taking place in the South of England.

Tuesday 25th June

Today is a big day as we launch our Kickstarter to raise funds for our work in three summer festivals - Tramlines, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Greenbelt. We are going to be supporting the mental health and wellbeing of artists, volunteers and festival go-ers over the summer and the Kickstarter aims to fund resources, installations and creative approaches to help people start conversations about mental health and to provide practical care.

Encouraging as of today the Kickstarter has raised 40% of its target. You can find out more and back our project here.

Wednesday 26th June

Today we’re running a Soulful Wellbeing Day for 20 Sheffield-based School staff. Our Educational lead Ben Harper is running the day and I’m supporting him. I love these days, set in the beautiful surroundings of Whirlow Spirituality Centre. Ben takes us through our wellbeing triangle creatively - asking us how we relate to ourselves, others and our sense of “the other.” These three sides of the triangle each input into our own sense of wellbeing and again we’re thrilled as people really appreciate the day. Throughout all the Wellbeing Days we’re run, we’ve always received either 4/5 or 5/5 ratings and 100% of people have said they’d recommend the days to colleagues.

Our next Soulful Wellbeing Day for School Staff is Thursday 19th September 2019.

Thursday 27th June

Today is our Workplace Pop-Up day. This chilled and relaxed space is created in venues across the city to provide space to work for sole-traders, entrepreneurs and business start ups. Today we’re at The Printhouse and its great to see familiar faces, to host some meetings and to work with others.

Workplace Pop Ups happen every month. For dates visit our events page.

Friday 28th June

This wonderfully busy week concludes with a morning with RE Co-Ordinators from Catholic Schools across the city. We are spending time reflecting on the life of St Francis of Assisi and using the creative arts to engage with the issues that he explored.

Then its back to the office and we are thrilled to receive our first booking for a Mental Health First Aid 1-2-1 at one of the summer festivals we are involved in.

Mental Health First Aid is crucial to our work and we’re going to be hosting a Mental Health First Aid accredited training course on 9-10 September, places are available via our website.
