Exploring Supervision

As part of our work supporting school staff, we are finding ourselves providing more and more reflection supervision.

Supervision aims to provide a safe space where individuals are able to unravel their thoughts and gain greater clarity. Sessions provide the mental space and time to step back and look at what’s going on together, exploring possible ways forward. People use these sessions to talk about any aspect of their work, or aspects of life that they believe are impacting on your work.

Supervision may include giving someone advice, and signposting to further resources and support, but is primarily about listening, reflecting and asking question that empower individuals to think ‘well’ for themselves.

Many caring professions have supervision in place as part of their routine, but this is a relatively new provision for those in education.

We see first hand the impact such sessions can have on staff wellbeing. One person recently commented “I found it really useful to understand more of what I was feeling, accept it and hear alternative ‘voices’”
