The New 111 Option 2 Phone line for Mental Health

As we moved into May, a lot of change was ushered into how Mental Health Support is accessed and where to go to get help. Here’s a quick summary and an introduction to the new 111 option 2 service.

In Sheffield, first change is that the name of Recovery services has changed to the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) service, and it is now organised into more smaller teams across the city, with a view to working more closely with GPs and local community support services. This desire to work locally is key to everything now. A new Primary Care Mental Health model has also launched with the long term aim to provide services (that have been previously handled centrally) in local settings.

Alongside these changes is a really important new service. If you’re struggling with your mental health you can now call 111 and press option 2 for support and connection to services.

Ringing 111 Option 2

NHS 111 mental health option provides you with direct access to a call handler with mental health training who can ensure you get the help you need. It means you do not need to get areferral from a GP.

NHS 111 mental health option can help support you or your loved ones to manage a mental health crisis. For some people it is an alternative to going to the emergency departments at the hospital or calling the police. Mental health call handlers will contact professionals directly to arrange a crisis assessment if required.
