One of my earliest memories of therapy, was my counsellor Annette saying “Be kind to yourself.” I was struck by the idea. How can I be kind to me?
Being kind to yourself is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves.
When you think about it, it is also one of the simplest. Think how you’d be kind to someone else, then do that to yourself. All done.
But of course, the act is much harder. We are harsher on ourselves than anyone else. Often the standards we hold for our own success or failure are way higher than those we’d use with others. We can be our own harshest critics.
Here at Space to Breathe, we believe self-compassion is a central tool in resilience and this short video explores the idea of being kind to yourself a little more.
