Each year we take a day to particularly mark and note the importance of Mental Health around the world. This year the theme is “mental health is a universal human right” and that makes sense to our work here at Space to Breathe.
So often we will suppress, avoid or be blocked in our desire to get help. We may feel like there’s too much stigma to ever say I’m struggling. We may feel that society expects us to just keep going. We may feel there are way too many boundaries and barriers to getting us care.
This year we’ve created a special Shhh… meditation for World Mental Health Day 2023. You can find it at the bottom of this email. The meditation recognises that “sometimes it is enough to survive the day.” We wanted to say to everyone watching or reading this that you’ve achieved so much just getting this far. Keep going and we are with you and want to support you.
Today, why don’t you:
Make an appointment with your GP if you feel you need help.
Organise a 30 minute Wellbeing Chat with one of our team.
Reach out to a friend and offer support
Volunteer and help support others.
Asking for help is often the hardest step. Why not reach out to us or to other support today - we’d love to help you.
SUPPORT OTHERS THROUGH GIVING
The campaign this year recognises the universal right of everyone to receive mental health care. Yet often there are barriers and issues which mean many people miss out.
In 2023, we are also running a Campaign called “10:4” which is designed to get our most effective tools into the hands of people who often fall through the cracks of support and help. You can donate to this campaign today and that might be a great way to mark World Mental Health Day. If you’d like to, use the button below:
Why not take ten minutes now to use this Shhh reflection to give you some thinking and reflection time. The meditation uses three images and a poem from Carolyn Jess-Cooke to prompt our thinking.
